About the artist.

Cara Thayer, originally from a town in the Pacific Northwest, has turned her lifelong passion for art into a vibrant career in Chicago. After earning her BFA in drawing and painting from SAIC in 2007, she embraced city as her permanent home and creative hub. Thayer's artistic journey transcends mediums and genres, reflecting her belief that powerful messages can be conveyed through various forms. Whether it's a formal painting exhibit or an innovative blend of paint, fibers, and installation, her work is unapologetically bold, challenging, and refreshingly raw.

Education

2004-2007

Bachelor of Fine Arts
School of the Art Institute of Chicago

My experience at SAIC was crucial in shaping my identity as an artist. Surrounded by a competitive community of talented peers and exceptional professors, I concentrated on and painting while also receiving encouragement to explore multiple disciplines, including sculpture, in my studies.

2002-2004

Central Oregon Community College

COCC marked the beginning of my artistic journey. It was during this time that I met Bill Hoppe, who was serving as an art professor. As a talented artist, he became an essential mentor and a lifelong friend to me. He encouraged me to continue my studies at a more advanced institution.
